Almond, Pumpkin Seed and Sunflower Seed Granola

This is a great basic granola recipe, with loads of crunchy almonds and seeds.  Chop the almonds quite small to make it suitable for young kids.  Nuts and seeds are a great source of protein and healthy fats.  This recipe has no refined sugar and gets its sweetness from agave syrup, coconut sugar and raisins, but is not overly sweet.  It uses olive oil as it’s a healthy oil, which I normally don’t use in sweet recipes because it has a strong flavour, but it works great in this granola.



300g oats

2 tablespoons coconut sugar

2 tablespoons agave syrup

4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

100ml orange juice

100g chopped almonds

100g pumpkin seeds

100g sunflower seeds

200g raisins


How it’s made:

Preheat the oven 160 degrees Celsius.  Line 2 baking trays with greaseproof paper or other non-stick paper.

Mix the oats, coconut sugar, agave syrup, olive oil, orange juice, nuts and seeds together in a large bowl.

Divide the mixture between two trays and spread out in a thin layer.

Bake in the oven for about 20-25 minutes, checking every 5 minutes and stirring to avoid burning.  Alternate which baking tray is on the top shelf every 5 minutes also.

When it’s cooked, take it out of the oven and mix in the raisins.  Leave to cool and store in an air tight container.
